The eyes

LOGO.png

In October 2020 I made The Eyes for the entrance space of Art Quarter.

The piece is installed at the top of the corridor; as the space opens up, the public can view the work from varied perspectives. From afar the piece appears to be a drawing. As the viewer gets closer they see the lines float above the frame; realising the piece is made out of nail and thread.

The subject's eyes are deliberately gender-non-specific, so the viewer has no pre-conceived idea of who that person is. The eyes also have a focused look to them; demonstrating the vision of Art Quarter as something ambitious, strong but supportive and nurturing.

Mary Lee Berners-Lee

I was commissioned by Digbeth Art Space to create a portrait of Mary Lee Berners-Lee who was presented with the inaugural Hall of Fame award at the Birmingham Women In Tech Awards 2019.

This portrait was presented to Mary Lee's family during the ceremony, with the portrait gifted to the estate of Mary Lee Berners-Lee.
